Flexing Mental Muscles
Hello Friend ~
I learn so much every day. From my clients. My colleagues. Family, friends.
SO. MUCH.
One of the biggest lessons of being a business owner (four years and counting, wow!) is how much there is to learn. When I began my private practice, I used to think about “how good it would feel when I finally understood how to do everything” to be successful.
What I’ve learned has everything to do with what I talk to clients about all the time. Yes, the doing-ness is important, however, it is the being-ness that makes it all possible. At any given moment, it is my way of being — open/closed, calm/chaotic, connected/disconnected — that ultimately impacts my capacity to take in each next moment with strength or scarcity, clarity or confusion, optimism or despair.
My clients hear me talk about flexing a mental muscle. Anyone who is familiar with physical exercise understands that building endurance and stamina takes practice; and so it is with the mental muscle of intellect. This is the part of us that can assess and discern and pivot to create new outcomes when old paradigms are no longer serving us.
What I’ve offered here is a snippet of a much bigger conversation. In the months to come, and in preparation for next year, I am working to develop ways for more of us to come together in conversation to learn and grow from our respective life experiences and wisdom.
I am continually in awe of what people share with me. Thank you. Thank you for trusting me, for allowing us the privilege of holding space together, for the honor of listening to your stories.
To continued learning and connection,
